Tongo Whistling Rocks & Tengzug Shrines
Giant granite boulders known as the whistling rocks, and the sacred shrines of the Talensi people.
The Tongo Hills near Bolgatanga are a landscape of giant granite boulders known as the whistling rocks, which are said to whistle in the harmattan season. Within them lie the Tengzug shrines, sacred to the Talensi people and once a hideout for people escaping slave raiders. Visits are made with local guides, and visitors remove their shirts before entering the shrine.
